Carol Lambert

Carol Louise Lambert, 79, left this earth to reunite with her beloved Norman, on July 5, 2021, their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Born August 4, 1941, Carol was the third of five children born to Earl and Hazel (Camper) Drane. A ball of fire from birth, when she was a child she would tell people her name was Carolina Louisianna. She grew up and attended school in Broadus where she would later return after retiring from the family ranch.

Norman and Carol were married July 5, 1958. Their first son, Norman Earl, was born in 1959. William Ray came in 1960, followed by Marcus Allen in 1967. After working on the Jock Sanburn Ranch, then living on the Matson place while working for Earl Drane, they eventually leased and later bought the Lambert homestead to ranch and raise their family. She could work alongside the men and come back to the house and feed the crew too.

Carol was stubborn and feisty but full of love. Big things really do come in small packages! She never met a stranger and was a friend to all. She could make conversation with anybody, anywhere, and she was genuinely interested in what you had to say. A multi-talented lady, Carol could play the piano and sing, made countless beautiful cakes over the years for everything from birthdays to weddings. She spent a number of years as an EMT in Carter County also.

Norman and Carol would frequently take turns hosting card parties with neighbors. They generally had extra kids at their house. Maybe for a few days, maybe for the summer, but they took them in and treated them like their own. There was not much she would not do for her kids and grandchildren.

Although her greatest accomplishment was her kids and family, whom she loved fiercely, she also contributed greatly to her local community and state alike. Both her and Norman were active in Carter County, him as a county commissioner and her as President of the Republican Women. Carol spent a majority of her life as a member of the Boyes Community Club. She spent many years on different boards and committees, traveling the state and the country. Carol was a past state president in Montana Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE). Throughout her career, she served on the state Independent Living Council, State Vocational Rehab Council and Montana Developmental Disabilities Board, various County Republican Women groups and committees.

She served several years as a District Representative in the State Legislature. She took great pride in going door to door campaigning and shaking hands. She tried to be a voice for her constituents even if it wasn't always along party lines. Following her years in the legislature she was nominated to the Montana Board of Transportation for several years. There are very few miles of Montana roads that she has not been on. Her one of a kind personality left a mark everywhere she went and with everyone she met along the road.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband Norman O. Lambert, parents Earl and Hazel Drane, and one brother, Larry Drane. She is survived by Sons: Norm, Bill, Marc (Alicia); Daughter In Laws: Kara Lee and Laura; Grandchildren: Kara Lou (Adam) Lambert, Cammie Jo (Matt) D'Esterre, Kelsey (Jeff) Bird, Shylee (Brandon) Walton, Chantz (Josie) Lambert, Misty (Tadd) Kilgore; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Siblings: Thelma Richardson, Betsy (Myron) Deibel, and Allen (Ella Mae) Drane.
