Lady 'Dogs pick up early season wins

The CCHS Lady Bulldogs started their season last weekend with non-conference games versus Melstone and Savage on consecutive days at Sacred Heart school in Miles City. The girls beat Melstone on Friday, 49-40, and followed that with another win, 52-28, against Savage on Saturday.

Six Lady Bulldog players scored in Friday’s contest versus Melstone; three of those players finished the game in double figures. Nasya O’Connor led the team in points with 15. Heidi LaBree had 12 points and led the team in rebounds with 10, assists with 7, and steals with 4. Lady Blue committed 15 turnovers while the Melstone Lady Broncs had 26. CCHS shot 10-13 from the charity stripe (77 percent) but only went 1-13 (8 percent) from behind the arc.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs took a 12-point lead over Savage after the first quarter and never really looked back. Five Lady ‘Dogs scored, led by Heidi LaBree with 22. CCHS out-rebounded Savage, 31-20, and had 17 steals while only committing 16 turnovers. They shot 69 percent on free throws and improved from the three-point line (5-16, 31 percent).

The Lady Bulldogs are again coached by Kayla Olsen. This year’s assistant coach is Jalyn Klauzer.

This Friday, the girls will play Broadview/Lavina at Lavina. On Saturday they are scheduled to play Reedpoint/Rapelje at Broadview.
