Lady Bulldogs' season ends at state tourney

The CCHS Lady Bulldogs' season ended with a pair of losses at the Montana Class C State Tournament in Billings last week. It might not have been the successful end to the season they had hoped for, but the season was still a success as CCHS finished with a 20-5 overall record. Over the course of the year, Lady Blue lost to Class B Baker twice, on January 10th and January 31st. Baker finished third in the state Class B tourney. The girls' third loss came on March 4th to Roberts in the Southern C Divisional championship game. Their final two losses were last Wednesday and Thursday at state.

In the first game at state, the girls lost to Twin Bridges, 24-55. As a team, they shot 25 percent on free throws and 38 percent from the field. CCHS was outrebounded, 29-43, and lost the turnover battle, 17-15. Allie Dale of Twin Bridges was the games leading scorer with 19 points. Nasya O'Connor had 11 for CCHS on three, 3-pointers; Tyra O'Connor had 7 rebounds.

Twin Bridges went on to finished second at the state tournament, losing to Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale in the championship.

Thursday morning in loser-out action, the Lady 'Dogs were outscored in every quarter and lost to Plentywood, 24-63. CCHS shot 3 of 6 (50 percent) on free throws, 6 of 32 (19 percent) on two-pointers and 3 of 18 (17 percent) from beyond the arc. Plentywood shot 45 percent from the field and made an impressive number of shots from deep where they went 11 of 28 (39 percent). Tyra O'Connor was Blue's leading scorer with 8 points. Kendra Tooke and Codi Melton tied for a team-high 6 rebounds.

Plentywood went on to make their way through the bottom of the bracket, eventually winning third place with a nine-point consolation game victory over last year's champion, Roy-Winifred.
