Erma Albert saved some of her outside plants from freezing, this week. Her petunias were out, but the cold nights just made them more beautiful. On Tuesday, Erma went to physical therapy in Buffalo. She and Dick went to eye appointments in the Hills on Thursday. Luckily, their eyes had not changed much, and they could keep their old glasses. They went to the Senior Citizen Dinner on Friday, and Erma stayed in the afternoon to play cards. Catholic Mass was on Saturday night, this week, and Dick and Erma stayed home to watch it on Zoom. They went to Saloon Number Three for Sunday lunch.

Dixie Garr and a friend from Belle Fourche came out to Camp Crook, to visit with Pete Anderson over the weekend. The three went to the Methodist Church Dinner and Bazaar at the Camp Crook Community Center on Sunday.

Lynn Gustafson went to the Fall Council Meeting of the Carter and Fallon County extension clubs on Wednesday. The Diligent Doers were the hosts for the fall meeting, and they held it at the Camp Crook Community Center. The meetings started at 9:30 that morning, and lasted until four in the afternoon. Denise Zolnoski did a presentation on use of the air fryer, and everyone got to sample delicious ways of making bagels and other creative dishes. Tawni Cordell did a presentation on camp cooking, using iron skillets and iron surrounded and covered with coals from the fire, to cook and bake. The day was full of learning, great teachers and interesting subjects. The Diligent Doers ladies provided baked potatoes with choices of toppings for lunch. Lynn and Bruce went to the Little Missouri Church service on Sunday.

Travis and Amanda Davis, Rory and Oliver, came to visit Doug and Julia Davis, Tuesday evening. They stayed through Wednesday and Thursday to help work sheep. On Thursday, Travis’s family went back to visit Jake and Callie’s home in Belle Fourche, before heading back to Alabama. Doug went down to a birthday party for Jerry Fuller and Marlys, but Julia had caught a cold, and stayed home to keep from spreading it.

Junior and Shirley Melum had gotten about two-tenths of an inch of rain this week. Their great-grandbaby will be born soon, and the parents are their granddaughter, Bridget and Dewey, Bertha and Pete’s daughter. The ash trees had turned golden, before the freeze, but are now less pretty. Ernie, Rachel and Tommy visited Karen Odell’s this week. They went to church in Baker, on Sunday, stayed for the afternoon service at the Nursing Home, and came home after the evening gathering.

The Paddens have had a busy week. On Monday, Bryce, Dawn and Dorothy went to Ekalaka for the last Junior High Football game of the season. It was a nice, warm evening, and a great night to get good football pictures. The three went to Buffalo, on Tuesday, for the HCHS volleyball game with Lead-Deadwood. On Thursday, Dawn and Dorothy went to join the Diligent Doers in hosting the Fall Carter-Fallon County Council Meeting in Camp Crook. It was an interesting and fun day.

Bryce, Dawn and Dorothy went to Buffalo again on Thursday to see the B and C volleyball teams play Baker. Hunters from Livingston came that evening. The whole group went out for Saturday supper at Over The Edge. The hunters got their antelope before leaving on Sunday. The Buffalo-Bison boys football game was at Timber Lake, on Friday, so Bryce and Dawn just went to the Corner Bar in Camp Crook to watch the game on TV. It was a lot warmer and closer to home. Saturday was a C team volleyball triangular, at Buffalo, with Newell and Bowman. By Sunday, it was time for the Methodist Church Dinner and Bazaar at the Camp Crook Community Center. It had been a very busy week, and Dawn had taken lots of pictures. She was busy, on Sunday night, processing pictures so she could put some on Facebook.

Ronda Cordell went to Ekalaka, on Thursday, for the Virginia Ludwick funeral. Later, she got an oil change at Fruit’s. When she got home, she picked tomatoes. The grasshoppers had devoured her garden in June, leaving only three-inch stems of four tomatoes. Those stems grew back, and Ronda picked nearly a bushel of tomatoes, and also saved a few seeds. Ronda made a trip to Walmart in Spearfish on Saturday, and then hurried back to Belle Fourche to see Darby Zolnoski play her first basketball game of the season at the Rec Center. Then she went to Bowman Hall to celebrate Jerry Fuller’s 90th birthday, and friend, Marlys’s, 95th birthday. Lynn and LuAnn Zolnoski had come from Cheyenne to see Darby play, too, so Chad’s and Clint’s families met with their dad and LuAnn, to eat at the Stadium. Ronda met Chad, Debby and Roudy Zolnoski to give them the fish finder.

Colin and Colleen Smith visited Ronda on Sunday morning. Colin, who is employed by the Turkey Federation, was surprised that the turkeys had already begun moving in around the buildings. Ronda had a picture of an albino turkey that had showed up last week. At noon, Ronda went to Camp Crook for the Methodist Church Bazaar. On Sunday night Cheryl Burghduff called to say that she had received a text from Mark Holsti on Saturday, stating that he was hunkered down in a B&B in Jerusalem, while war was starting in the Gaza Strip. He is hoping to get home at the end of the week, but that will depend upon the air travel out of the area.

Karen Odell was glad to have some visitors this week. Karen had a great visit with Rachel Melum, while Ernie and Tommy started Charlie’s tractors and checked out some machinery outside. It actually rained so much that they were soaked when they came in. Chancey Odell came over to help Karen with a chore or two, one day. Karen’s mower needs a battery, so she has been using Charlie’s, but his battery quit on her, too, when she was in the middle of the weeds, so she walked back to the house and ordered an air filter and some oil. Too bad she is not a mechanic.

On Saturday morning, she got to watch her grandson, Kellan, play football for Mitchell. The game had been on Friday night, but with YouTube and rewind, she got great views of the plays, and didn’t even have to sit outside in the cold. It was a really good game to watch, and Kellan had some great plays. She got pictures of grandson, Carson, who had run cross-country in honor of his uncle and aunt, Gene and Carol Odell, earning his all time personal best run. Granddaughter, Kenna, looked lovely for church, in one of Grandma’s dresses that she may have worn once back in the dark ages, when Karen was that small. Kenna has grown really tall and the dress fits her perfectly. Micki and Murphy were making a “purrito” with the cat in Washington. Mollie and Kyia are already decorating for Halloween in Minnesota. Jeff and Amanda had received and shared their wedding pictures. Karen went to the Methodist Church Dinner in Camp Crook, on Sunday. She had a great visit with many friends, making her day beautiful.

Hope you will remember Mark in your prayers this week.

Remember the good old days, when kids were glad to be told to go out and play?
