Lady Bulldogs win Southern C Divisional

 

Last weekend, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs defeated Plenty Coups, Bridger, and Harlowton/Ryegate to secure the Montana Southern C Divisional Championship. This weekend, the team will travel to Butte for the state tournament. Their first game is against Plentywood at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

A small pep rally will be held at the Super 8 Hotel in Butte on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. All tournament games will be live streamed by NFHS Network. Fans can find the link to register at mhsa.org. Two radio stations, 960 KFLN AM and 100.5 KJJM FM, will be broadcasting the games as well.

In their first game at the Southern C Divisional Basketball Tournament, CCHS took on Plenty Coups. In the first quarter, CCHS outscored Plenty Coups 17-8. They were outscored by the Warriors in the second and scoring was even in the third. CCHS then had a big final quarter to put Plenty Coups away.

Four Bulldogs finished the game with double-digit points. CCHS lost the turnover battle, but out-rebounded Plenty Coups, 34-30. The girls shot 40% on two-point field goals, and only 21% on threes for the game. Claire Callahan led in rebounds with 12.

At 8:00 p.m. the following night, CCHS took on Bridger. Again, a large final frame helped Blue secure the victory. CCHS forced 31 turnovers while committing only 20. They out-rebounded Bridger, 27-17, and shot better percentages from the field and on free throws. CCHS was 6 for 10 from the charity stripe, 15 for 31 on two-point field goals, and 6 for 22 on threes. Heather LaBree led CCHS in points with 19. Claire Callahan led in rebounds, 9.

In the Southern C Divisional Championship game, CCHS took on Harlowton/Ryegate. The Bulldogs had an eight point lead at halftime, but that lead had shrunk to three by the start of the fourth quarter. Down the stretch, CCHS players made key free throws to secure the victory. Blue went 15 of 25 (60%) from the charity stripe while Harlowton shot an impressive 17 of 19 (89%). CCHS out-rebounded Harlowton 27-16, and committed four less turnovers. Six Bulldog players made their way into the scoring column, led by Heather LaBree with 20.

This weekend, the CCHS Lady Bulldogs will be playing in the Montana State Class C Girls Basketball Tournament at Butte Civic Center. Their first game will be against Plentywood, the number two team from the eastern division. That game will start at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
