Pet parade rolls into town on Friday, Aug. 9th

The 25th Annual Carter County Fair Pet Parade is scheduled for Friday, August 9. The event begins at noon at the bleacher area of Carter County Fairgrounds. Registration for contestants will be from 11 a.m. until noon. Sponsoring the event are the Carter County Fair Board and Marshall Ranch.

Sponsors invite all participants from 0-100 years old to participate and compete for a few bucks to get through the Days of ‘85. There is no pre-registration, no entry fee and no age limits or restrictions on pet species (it might be wise, though, to have kitties in carriers or harnesses).

So gather up your pet(s), plan and decorate. Then, parade in front of a cheering audience in the bleachers.

The decorating categories for this year are:

1. Animals depicted in nursery rhymes, books, movies, etc. Examples: "Little Bo Peep," "The Old Gray Mare," "Old Yeller," "Old Shep," "Mary Had a Little Lamb," "The Owl and the Pussycat," "The Cat in the Hat" (Dr. Seuss), "Hickory, Dickory Dock," "How Much is that Doggy in the Window," "I Ride an Old Paint" (you get the idea).

2. My Favorite Chore (or Least Favorite Chore) in your house or outdoors. Utilize your pet(s) to explain why.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each division. All entries will receive some cash, even if they don’t win. The grand prize will be awarded to the favorite of the three judges selected for the parade.

So grab or nab your favorite pet (rope if necessary). The three judges, announcer, ringmasters, and tally master will be announced in next week's Eagle.
