The CCHS varsity squad got off to a slow start in their first game of the season against Wibaux on Saturday. The game was the first with a new coaching staff as 2004 CCHS graduate Clayton Stieg took over head coaching duties this season. Another CCHS alum, Jeremy Frye, is the new boys' assistant.

CCHS went down by seven at the end of the first quarter, and the deficit grew to double digits (10) by halftime.

Wibaux's lead shrunk to three points by the end of the third quarter behind a tight Bulldog man-to-man defense that held the Longhorns to only nine points in the frame. Turner Tooke and Ryan Rychner each hit a three-pointer in the third that helped close the gap.

The Dawgs continued their comeback in the fourth, outscoring Wibaux again, and pouring in 11 points in a frenzy that occurred in less than a minute. CCHS had a two-point lead with 14 seconds to go but missed a key free throw that could have potentially put the game out of reach for the Longhorns. Wibaux hit a buzzer beater to win the game, 56-55. Bulldog senior Jared Pardee led all scorers with 21 points. Garrett Johnson led Wibaux with 16. Blue went an impressive 17 of 20 (85 percent) from the free throw line.
