No public health nurse or county health director leads to closure of services

The Carter County Board of Health recently informed residents of the current situation of the county’s public health department. Due to the vacancy of a public health nurse and county health director, the services made available through Carter County Public Health are temporarily closed.

Dahl Memorial Healthcare previously worked with the Carter County Board of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic by administering COVID-19 testing, but withdrew from administering testing effective December 31, 2020.

Carter County Board of Health has made arrangements with Fallon County Public Health to administer COVID-19 testing and immunizations, and field any questions and concerns regarding the virus until the vacancies are filled.

Individuals who would like to make an appointment can call (406) 778-2824. Fallon County Public Health is located at 225 S. 3rd St. West in Baker. Phase 1B for COVID-19 vaccinations is approaching and will include scheduling vaccinations for persons 70 years of age and over, as well as individuals who are 16-68 with high risk medical conditions. Contacts will be made when the vaccination is available. The clinic will be set up at Fallon County Fairgrounds in Baker. Those interested in receiving the vaccination can call (406) 778-2824.

The Carter County Board of Health regrets this inconvenience to the citizens of the county, and the board is actively advertising for a public health nurse and County Health Director.
