Tracksters compete at state

Three CCHS athletes competed at the MHSA Class C State Track and Field Meet in Missoula over the weekend. Freshman Ethan Frye competed on the men's side. Fellow freshman Brynn Loehding competed on the women's side, as did sophomore Katie Tooke.

Frye ran a 19.47 in the 110 meter hurdle prelims, missing out on the finals. Twin Bridges senior Tate Smith won the event with a time of 15.62.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Frye ran a personal best of 47.11 and finished in twenty-first place. Smith topped the podium again in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.19.

Loehding finished twenty-second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 57.18. She ran her personal best at the divisional meet in Laurel when she clocked in at 55.01. Hinsdale's Kaitlyn McColly won the event, clocking in at 46.34 seconds.

Tooke finished eighteenth in the high jump. She cleared four feet, six inches, the same mark that got her to state. Her personal best in the event came a few weeks ago when she cleared 4'8" at the district meet. Teagan Erickson of Saco won the event with a height of five feet, four inches.

The state meet officially marks the end of this year's sports seasons. First-time varsity coach Brett Nielsen said that his young athletes were able to hold their own against some of the highest competition in the state and that the year was a fun experience. Nielsen is leaving Ekalaka and will be teaching at Rolette, North Dakota next fall.
