Miles City Cowboy Poetry Gathering, February 27th

The 7th Annual Miles City Cowboy Poetry Gathering will be hosted by the Range Riders Museum on Sunday February 27th. Entertainment will kick off at 11:30 am with local talent Emmett LaBree from Miles City, performing old classic country songs. A roast beef dinner will be served at noon. The featured performers Jim Hamilton, Bill Lowman, Brent Voigt, and Vickie Hill are scheduled to perform during the Main Show at 1 pm. The event will finish out with an Open Mic session about 3 pm with a limit of one poem/song per individual and conclude at 4 pm.

A returning featured performer is Jim Hamilton a lifetime rancher on the east slope of the Wolf Mountains in southeast Montana. His poetry is about what he knows, ranching and the cowboy way of life. He strives for authenticity and is highly flattered if a real cowboy or rancher tells him, “I could sure see that happening when you told about it.” Most of his poetry is humorous, but he has several serious ones that he likes to do in the right setting.

Making his first appearance at the Miles City gathering is Bill Lowman the Founder/Director of the long running Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering held annually at Medora, North Dakota. Bill and his family own and operate a ranch in the badlands some 20 miles northeast of Sentinel Butte. He is a multi-talented visual, literary, and performing artist. His main focus is to record, preserve and enhance the cowboy culture of America.

Brent Voigt and Vickie Hill will also be making their first appearance in Miles City. They are professional musicians who have worked together for more than ten years. They both come from very musical families and started playing and singing early in life. They have enjoyed performing at and attending numerous Cowboy Poetry and Music Gatherings, including the national gathering in Elko, NV. Brent lives in Rhame, ND and works on a ranch. Vickie lives in Turtle Lake and has a music lesson studio and is a substitute school teacher.

The poetry gathering is a fund raiser for the Range Riders Museum and the cost is $25 for the meal, entertainment, and open mic. The event is held in the Pioneer Hall of the museum. Tickets are available at the door but seating is limited. It is recommended that you reserve ticket that can be picked up at the door. You can call/text Sharon Moore at 406-852-0722, Bunny Miller at 406-852-4949 to reserve your tickets or register for Open Mic.
