Dogs show much improved defense

Last Friday night at Rowely Field, CCHS football took on Savage. The Bulldogs played a strong game on the defensive side of the ball, holding Savage to 13 points in the first half. In the second quarter, freshman quarterback Jared Pardee threw a 22 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Max Larson. The Dawgs were down 13-6 at halftime.

Although junior Caleb Fix was able to squeeze off a few five yard gains, the biggest problem for CCHS in this game was consistently moving the ball. Savage was held scoreless in the third quarter which kept the game close. With the Dogs’ inability to control the ball, Savage just had too many possessions at the end of the game. They put up nineteen points in the fourth quarter. Two of those scores were on long pass plays; one went for 24 yards and the other went 72.

In the final minutes of the game, Pardee threw another touchdown, this time to sophomore Grafton Bonsell. The final score read Savage 32, CCHS 12. If the Bulldogs can continue to play tough on the defensive side of the ball like they did against Savage, their is a good chance they will still have a very successful season. The biggest problem for the young team is scoring; they have only scored three touchdowns so far this year.

This Saturday the CCHS Bulldogs will take on the Bainville Bulldogs in Bainville. The game will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. CCHS and Bainville both have records of 0-2.
