  • Conversations with God

    Updated Apr 29, 2021

Hello God, it’s me, Mara: You know, Lord, a couple of us gals were comparing our weeks, days; then the question of how we slept popped up. THAT’S an interesting subject; believe it or not, a few of us could relate to lack of sleep. Jill mentioned her past lack of sleep: “Is it really considered ‘misplacing’ if the misplaced object is yourself? Yup – that was me. The rest of my story: I went to use the bathroom, came out later … my husband asked me what I had been doing in there for almost four hours. Oops – I must have dozed...

  • Legislative update

    Jerry Schillinger|Updated Apr 29, 2021

This past week didn’t start until Tuesday, caused by the controversies noted in last week's report, ie. Virus, judges, etc.. Nonetheless, it turned out to be a productive week, with the Governor signing some important legislation into law: HB 163 expanding the Fish and Game Commission to seven members will allow better representation across the state. Additionally, I believe, we will send a bill to the Governor that stipulates that three of the seven members will be a...

  • PSC supports broadband expansion in Montana

    Updated Apr 29, 2021

HELENA, Montana — The Montana Public Service Commission has long recognized that access to a high-speed, reliable broadband network is crucial to Montana’s societal and economic health. The experience of the Covid-19 pandemic has echoed this sentiment. A robust, modern broadband network will enable the state to offer new job opportunities, improve options for healthcare and education, and generally connect Montana with the rest of the world. The Commission supports the initiative put forth by the legislature to direct fun...

  • Cooking in the West

    Susan Metcalf|Updated Apr 29, 2021

A few years back, a young man came to the ranch to learn all he could about cowboying during calving season. Of course, I talked him into writing a guest column for me to chronicle his experience. The following story chronicles his impression of ranch life on our outfit. My name is Bryan Bade. I am from St. Louis, Missouri, and I am spending two months on the Metcalf Ranch learning as much as I can about ranching and cowboying. I have learned so much I could write a book, but Susan told me this can only be 1000 words long....

  • The Corner

    Erwin Curry|Updated Apr 29, 2021

My father’s family is traced back to West Virginia, which was still Virginia when my great-great and great-grandfather lived there before moving west. There are Curry/Currey family reunions in West Virginia to this day. I was told by a cousin there that all people with our name in WV are related. ‘Currey’ and ‘Curry’ were used interchangeably, there at that time. I researched this part of the family the last few years using Ancestry.com and other sources. It is postulated that the family may have come from Northeast...

  • No baseball this spring in Ekalaka

    Updated Apr 29, 2021

Due to the lack of a field in Ekalaka, there will not be any local youth or adult baseball or softball this year. Tee-ball, usually beginning on the first Wednesday in May, last had a season in 2019 when over thirty kids were a part of the program. Local baseball and softball supporters have been working to get a new ball field in Ekalaka since the county elected to fence off the old field that sat between the fairgrounds and high school football field. The baseball field was fenced off in order to make more room for the...

The property consists of Lots 4 & 5, Block 2 of the Cady Addition, next to Rowley Field. The school has not yet taken possession of the property.
