  • CCHS falls to Park City

    Updated Sep 16, 2021

The Bulldogs were originally scheduled to play a conference game in St. Labre last week, but since St. Labre canceled its season the school scheduled a non-conference game at home versus Park City. Blue was able to drive the ball some early, although Park City's defensive front was wreaking havoc on the Dogs' running game. In the first half, three Bulldog drives stalled out in the red zone. The Dogs didn't help themselves much either, as false starts and holding penalties...

  • Ekalaka and Carter County

    Bill Lavell|Updated Sep 16, 2021

I was born in my Grandpa and Grandma Coons’ house near Boxelder Creek and about a half a mile from the Bell tower store and post office. My parents lived at various places around Ekalaka and even briefly in Washington as I was growing up. In 1944 we moved to Ekalaka, where we lived until my graduation from CCHS in 1956. That night, May 23, Charles and I got in the truck with my Dad and moved to Miles City, where Dad had bought a wrecking yard. In one of the first stories that I sent to the Eagle, I told how I considered E...

The bull elk are starting to bugle, and this is the week that hunters are packing into the wilderness for the opening of early rifle season. One of the best things about working in the outfitting industry is helping clients fulfill lifelong dreams such as going on a wilderness elk hunt in Montana. Two of my favorite movies of all time are “Second Hand Lions” and “The Bucket List.” “Second Hand Lions” has the best last line of any movie, which is, “They really lived! Both movies are about living instead of dying, because when...

  • Conversations with God

    Updated Sep 16, 2021

Hello God, it’s me, Mara: You know Lord, when people mention the word ‘treasure’ one right away thinks about jewels, diamonds, rubies, precious stones, riches, money, wealth, a pot of gold, a cache of silver, but there are other things one could or should treasure. What about relationships? Things You Can Count On Now! There is a grace that is sufficient; a mercy that endures; an atoning blood that cleanses; a hope that doesn’t disappoint; a love that never fails; a purpose that works all things together for the good; a...

Back in March, the Eagle reported on what would be the newest addition to Ekalaka's Main Street. The much anticipated opening of Ijkalaka Grocery took place on Tuesday. At an impressive 5,200 square feet, the brand new grocery shares its name (Ijkalaka) with the town's namesake, Ijkalaka Russell, a native Sioux who was the wife of David Harrison Russell.
