    The CCHS Bulldog varsity boys’ basketball team also kicked off their season last weekend, falling to non-conference opponents Melstone and Savage. The ‘Dogs were outscored by the Melstone Broncs by 18 points in the first half on Friday, and went on to lose by 42. The Bulldogs are a young team this year with two seniors on the roster, only one of whom, Avory Matthews, was able to suit up over the weekend.     MILES CITY – The weather was a bit milder for the final weekend of the general hunting season, but hunter traffic was still down a bit at check stations on Sunday in southeast Montana. Hysham check station The number of hunters passing through the Hysham check station was below what is typical for the closing weekend of the general deer and elk season.     The CCHS Lady Bulldogs started their season last weekend with non-conference games versus Melstone and Savage on consecutive days at Sacred Heart school in Miles City. The girls beat Melstone on Friday, 49-40, and followed that with another win, 52-28, against Savage on Saturday.     A community Christmas tree lighting took place in Ekalaka on Sunday. The now annual event was started a few years ago by a group of local community members. The tree was sourced locally and will stay on the main street triangle throughout the remainder of the holiday season.
