Four individuals have filed for two open positions on the Ekalaka Public Schools Unified Board of Trustees. Both openings are three-year terms for candidates from Elementary District No. 15 and High School District No. 3. Tami Lynn Sturgeon, 55, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away tragically and unexpectedly on March 24, 2024. David Nakasone, 74, of Ekalaka passed away December 27, 2023, at his home in Ekalaka. David was born on July 10, 1949, to Saburo and Matsuko Nakasone in Lihue, Hawai'i. Ekalaka Public Schools Board of Trustees has moved to run a bond election for staff housing. As part of the strategic plan made by the board, staff and community over the last year, one main goal is to offer staff housing for recruitment and retention of staff members of the district.
