  • Barbecue hosted by Gumbo Gophers, June 30 at Alzada Hall

    The Gumbo Gophers 4-H Club is hosting a community barbecue to support the Alzada Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. on June 30th at the Alzada Hall. Charlie Williams is donating the meat for hamburgers and the club is buying hot dogs and buns. Salads and desserts are being donated by club members and others that choose to contribute.     Area student athletes will have the opportunity to attend a basketball camp at Carter County High School later this month. Called the Summit Basketball Camp, and named in part for former University of Tennessee Women’s Coach Pat Summitt, the camp will be offered to boys and girls entering kindergarten through eighth grades.     The public is invited to attend the Carter County High School FFA chapter’s annual banquet on Tuesday, May 18th, 6 p.m., at the CCHS Tuggle Room. A supper will be served prior to a presentation by keynote speaker Dave Kirschten and remarks from 2020-21 State FFA Officer Gracie Tooke.   • Community wide garage sale, June 5

    Sign-up forms for the annual Carter County Chamber of Commerce Community Wide Garage Sale are currently available online and at the town office. The event is slated for Saturday, June 5. Sellers need to sign up and pay a $10 fee by May 26 in order to get on the map. Sign up sheets have a place to write name, street address, items for sale and a phone number.   • Memorial Day activities, May 31

    Memorial Day services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 31, at Beaver Lodge Cemetery. Veterans performing the services should arrive at 10:30 a.m. During the service, members of VFW Auxiliary will honor fallen soldiers by placing a white cross and a red, poppy covered wreath in the center of the cemetery. There will be a picnic and social at the Events Center following the cemetery services.   • Private applicator training, May 5th

    Carter and Fallon Counties are holding a private applicator training on May 5th in Baker at the Fallon County Exhibit Hall. The class will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This class will cover topics on the private applicator exam. Those attending will be able to take the test upon conclusion of the class.     Ekalaka Public Schools will be holding a kindergarten screening on April 8 separate from the developmental screening that is taking place on Tuesday, April 6. The screening for children who will be entering kindergarten next year will be on Thursday, April 8, between 12:30 and 1 p.m. in the gym.     Next Monday Dahl Memorial Healthcare Association will hold one more drive-thru flu vaccination clinic. The clinic will take place outside of the hospital from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost for the vaccine is $25 and can be paid by cash or check only.
