    Carter County High outscored St. Labre 38-0 in the first half and went on to win 38-16 at home last Friday night in Ekalaka. The win improved the Bulldogs record to 4-1 in their conference and 5-2 overall. The two senior men who play for CCHS helped give the Dogs their large, early lead and then cheered on their younger teammates from the sideline for most of the second half.     The CCHS Lady Bulldogs had a busy few days, playing in the Willa Nies Memorial Tournament on Saturday and in non-conference games against Buffalo, South Dakota on Monday. CCHS coaches elected to split their team into two squads for the tourney on Saturday. Jordan defeated Ekalaka 1 in two sets, 25-17 and 25-19 in the first game of the tournament.   • Lovec graduates from basic training

    Private Annette Lovec graduated from basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on September 26. Her mother, Melissa Lovec, and sister, Holland Lovec, traveled to attend the short ceremony held at 9 a.m. that morning. Lovec will now stay at Fort Leonard Wood where she will complete her advanced individual training to become a horizontal construction engineer (military occupational specialty 12N).     The Gumbo Gophers 4-H Club met October 4th at B&J’s in Alzada to decorate their hay bale and have their first meeting. Thanks to Bill Walker for the bales and B&J’s for letting us display them there.     The parking lot of St. Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Ekalaka will be a great stop for young trick-or-treaters when Halloween arrives this year. The annual ‘Trick or Trunk’ event will feature vehicles decorated for the occasion by rural hosts, allowing children to do a great deal of trick-or-treating in a single location.
