  • AAU wrestling wraps up successful season

    A group of local volunteers started up an AAU wrestling program in Ekalaka last fall. Thirty-five kids, ranging from preschool to high school, started wrestling practices at the end of November. The team practiced a few nights per week at St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall in Ekalaka and also traveled to Baker for practices.     The CCHS Lady Bulldogs' season ended at the Southern C Divisional Tournament in Miles City last Friday with a loss to Bridger. The girls lost their tourney opener on Wednesday to eventual champion Melstone.     The Bulldogs didn't go down without a fight, but their season ended at the District 4C tournament on Saturday with a consolation game loss to the Plevna Cougars. On February 15th, the number five seeded 'Dogs defeated the number 4 seeded Terriers of Terry, 61-51. The Bulldogs shot 18-44 (41 percent) from the field and 10-24 (42 percent) from three-point land.     The Lady Bulldogs went into the District 4C tournament as the number 5 seed and came out with a third place finish after defeating the number one seeded Jordan Lady Mustangs in a Saturday consolation game. To get to the consolation game, Lady Blue lost a Thursday afternoon game to Wibaux and then won a Saturday, loser-out contest against Terry.     The CCHS JV basketball boys lost to the Broadus JV boys on January 30th in Broadus, 38-52.     The CCHS Lady Bulldogs went 1-2 in their last three conference games, dating back to a January 30th contest in Broadus against the Lady Hawks in which they lost by 14, 46-60.     On January 6th, the Bulldogs traveled to Bison, South Dakota to play JV and varsity non-conference basketball games. No JV stats were available.     The Lady Bulldogs played Circle in Sacred Heart for their first game of their 2023-24 basketball campaign. CCHS was outscored in the second quarter by six points.     A group of local volunteers recently started up an AAU wrestling program in Ekalaka. The group of kids shown here started wrestling for the season at the end of November.
