The JH Boys Basketball season ended November 18 with the grand finale Sacred Heart tournament where Forsyth took first by only 1 point! The Boys A team lost to Forsyth Friday by only 4 points, and we couldn’t be prouder of them! Everything we had been working on all season shined in their final game of the season! Gage Stieg never sat out once and played controlled and intense ball, grabbing several rebounds, great angled layups, and a 3 pointer. Cortland O’Connor shined with his unstoppable left-hand drive and was the top...

  • JH girls play weekend games

    Jitt Schneider|Updated Nov 9, 2023

We went to Terry on Friday, there were two girls out sick, and two were injured. The score board does not always reflect what they have accomplished with the positionless offense, passing and defensive skills. They are moving the ball around, dribbling and shooting the ball. We are still working on our free throws to improve our percentage from the line and talking to teammates on defense. I also want to thank Coach Olsen, Coach Klauzer, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Spencer and Trista DeFrance for volunteering their time to assist. The...

  • JH girls work on fundamentals

    Jitt Schneider|Updated Nov 2, 2023

The girls have been working hard on the fundamentals — ball handling, passing, and dribbling towards the basket and defensive slides. Our positionless offense still needs some work as sometimes the ball is a hot potato, and the girls just want to get rid of it. We are working on taking a couple of seconds before we pass, dribble or shoot. Thanks to Coach Olsen, Coach Klauzer and Mrs. Amy Walker for volunteering to bring new drills, different perspectives and their willingness to help out wherever necessary. We played in B...

  • JH boys play in Broadus

    Christina Shepherd|Updated Nov 2, 2023

Mother nature was in great distress for our games last week, so therefore our Saturday game was canceled and the trip to Broadus was long and slow driving. Thankfully, with the help of some courageous drivers, we made it safely to and from Broadus on Friday. The Boys B Game was a close game the entire time, but the Bulldogs ended up with a win, 39-36! Cortland O’Connor had 26 points, 2 assists and 12 rebounds; Jenry Walker had 1 point and 1 assist; Grady Stieg had 7 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds; Landry Shepherd had 5 p...

  • Junior high girls basketball working on positionless offense

    Jitt Schneider|Updated Oct 25, 2023

We have been working on positionless offense so that every girl has the option to dribble, shoot or pass. These girls are quick to pick up the new drills we are giving them. We are setting goals during practice and for games, whether it is getting a certain amount of defensive and offensive rebounds or less than 10 turnovers or 30 baskets. These girls are working hard to accomplish their goals as a team, and we also have encouraged them to set personal goals. Coach Olsen has stopped at the gym to assist with some drills and...

  • Bulldogs finish regular season second in division

    Updated Oct 19, 2023

The CCHS Bulldogs trounced St. Labre two weeks ago on senior night at Rowley Field to wrap up their conference play for the season. The game was in large part treated as a junior varsity game for the Dawgs as several reserves spent the majority of the cold night on the field. On October 13th CCHS traveled to Circle to wrap up regular season play. Circle is still a part of the 8-man east division, and since the 'Dogs were moved to the 8-Man southeast division this year, the...

  • Junior high boys play with intensity

    Christina Shepherd|Updated Oct 19, 2023

It was a very short, long week to kick off JH basketball! With only four short practices, new coaches and new kids — we kicked of our game schedule with a long trip to Jordan for our first games. We were pleased with how well the boys adjusted and played hard. Against Jordan both teams adjusted well to their screen and cut offense and played such great help defense they thought we were playing zone (by the way we don’t know zone defense)! Keeping the intensity up but thinking before we react, we improved our control aga...

  • Bulldogs lose big to Dogies

    Updated Oct 5, 2023

The Forsyth Dogies handed the Bulldogs a big loss, 12-50, in what was basically a conference championship game in Forsyth last Friday. The Dogies scored early and often with a running attack where they continually tried to out-flank the Bulldogs with outside runs. The Bulldog defense was indeed porous, and most of Forsyth’s runs gashed Blue for big yardage. The Bulldog offense was held scoreless for most of the game, but did manage a couple of late touchdowns. One came after a good drive when the Dogies still had all of t...

The CCHS Bulldogs won their homecoming football game, defeating the Broadus Hawks 56-28 at Rowley Field on September 22nd. The Bulldog offense was cruising, but struggles on defense kept their opponent in the contest until the fourth quarter. Blue used a thirteen play drive to score after the opening kickoff. The drive was capped by a 4-yard run from quarterback Chace Loehding, who returned this week after seeing limited time earlier this season due to injury. Loehding also...

  • Dawgs win in Lame Deer

    Updated Sep 20, 2023

The Bulldogs traveled to Lame Deer on Friday for a game that counted only as a junior varsity contest, though both teams had varsity players suited. The Bulldogs handily won, securing a running clock by halftime when the score was 44-8. The game allowed younger players to get some playing time while also allowing older players to work on specific skills. The Dawgs also played a 3-4 defense for the entirety of the game - the third different defensive front they have shown so...

  • Two blind refs

    Updated Sep 14, 2023

A referee mix-up (or possible shortage) led to an interesting situation during the varsity football contest between CCHS and Lodge Grass on September 8th in Lodge Grass. Only one MHSA official made it to the game, so two individuals were pulled from the Indians' sideline and two were pulled from the Bulldogs' sideline. This ensured that all of the officials for the contest had proper training on concussions and CPR. CCHS assistant coach Eric Lovec, left, stood in as the back...
